The women’s draws in Grand Slams in 2012 were typically a cascade of upsets and surprises in the first few rounds, but the first Grand Slam of 2013 — the Australian Open — has offered few surprises. The top six seeds — Victoria Azarenka, Maria Sharapova, Serena Williams, Agnieszka Radwanska, Angelique Kerber and Na Li — have all advanced to the fourth round, setting up what are sure to be some thrilling matches in the second half of the fortnight.
The fourth-round match that most will be looking forward to, other than whatever match Maria Sharapova is in, will be Serena Williams against 14th-seeded Maria Kirilenko. Williams hasn’t come close to dropping a set and Kirilenko hasn’t dropped one either.
Other matches to look forward to will be Wozniacki, former world No. 1, trying to continue toward her first Grand Slam against two-time slam winner Svetlana Kuznetsova, and Ana Ivanovic trying to continue her career reclamation project against the rising Polish star Radwanska.
